The Web Wars are in full effect!! Netscape
and Microsoft have been feuding
over the fastest, slickest, and easiest interface to
communicate with over the Internet. Bill has resorted to
his old tactics of giving it all away, but Netscape
still holds a pretty strong grip on the market and the
decisions that other companies are making. Many of which
seem to favor them.
We have continued to focus in one
arena, Netscape, but on a continuing basis look at
the all of the competition and find the pros and cons of
each. Microsoft has
a pretty strong
contender, but I have a feeling the Netscape will
come back with rock-hard uppercut to answer Bill's latest
attack. Being a Registered Netscape Developer, I
know first hand that the folks at Mountain View are
crunching away at all the bugs and making life as smooth
as possible. And one of the most beneficial aspects is
that they continue to support and enhance all platform
specific releases. One thing that Microsoft is
trying to work on. With Microsoft's latest release
we see MANY features which are specific to Windows 95 and
that may be supported with Windows NT 4.0, but they lack
in support for the major players like: Macintosh, Sun,
Unix, etc. It wasn't till recently that Microsoft
released their Macintosh version of Internet Explore
2.0, while Netscape is already supplying the
Macintosh 3.0 beta to their clients.
Our
key focus is to understand what technologies are out
there and then determine how they can benefit our
clients. And the way it currently stands, Netscape
is making more strides to standardize their products with
some of the big players, as well as current and future
Internet standards. In my honest opinion, Microsoft
has just been playing catch-up and just accelerating Netscape's
lead and frontier. With the quick turnaround in
development cycles we should see some pretty interesting
events to come. Stay tune, the War isn't over!! Mel
