Windows 7 Multi-Sku Plans = FAIL, yet again

As a technology guy who has his hands on several different operating systems, having multiple versions of a product like Windows XP Home, XP Media Center, XP Professional, etc is just plain dumb.  Microsoft says they just can't release two builds: standard and volume license, I say they're full of shit.  Having multiple sku's really screws the little people like me who need to rebuild systems and just can't quite find the very specific version of XP Home that the user has, etc.  [Photo]

With such incredibly obnoxious sales in the billions you would think they could cut costs by shipping less versions and supporting one that might work.  Their incremental on Home vs. Premium has to be forfeited for the sake of simplicity for the industry as well as consumers.

All the permutations of Windows 7 would just have less services or software enabled.  In 99% of the cases taking the Premium version and just prompting the users how they want to use their system when they set it up should suffice.  I had posted a while back about how Jobs made fun of Micro$oft when they jabbed them with the one operating system concept, which obviously fell on deaf Microsnot ears.  Now they are planning the same BS with Windows 7, yet another cluster....

Keep it simple, support two major versions, and stop the madness.

Updated: Bink.nu has posted a nauseating list of what each level will come with, rather obnoxious http://is.gd/intK
