I bought the book on Hacking Firefox and I love it. Grin So far I made it through chapter 1, following the steps have been fairly easy so far. I'm not a programmer, so I'm already having difficulty in the beginning of chapter 2. I'm not sure if it is because of the version of Firefox(3.5.6) I'm using or I'm missing something in the reading. Please bare with me when I spell this out and might sound dumb.

I made it to the bottom of page 20 and this is where I'm lost in the reading.  It says, "The throbber is your activity indicator; it is the moving status icon on the top-right side of the browser window. The throbber URL or web page loads if you click on the throbber at any point."

I do not see what this throbber is or it's talking about ? Please explain this ?

The second part, On the top of page 21 is where I'm at a complete stop. I see the figure 2-3 on page 20. I do not have any of these use_pref. Mine stops on line 10, Is this correct or normal ?

Then on the top of page 21 it goes into opening the pref.js file. "The basic format that you want to use is to mimic the name/value keys format as follows: user_pref (browser.throbber, url") = "http://www.hackingfirefox.com/"; <I'm kinda lost where do I insert this command.

Could someone please elaborate on how to do these steps ? I'm enjoying this book so far and want to continue. I will continue to post more questions in this thread after I get past this point. I appreciate anyone's help on instructing me on how to do this.  Smiley

Thanks,
the IndianT3

Firefox has made several changes and the default throbber is now hidden.  You can readd it by customizing the toolbar and adding the activity throbber button.
