MR Tech's Recommended Mozilla/Firefox Ad Blocking - Different methods to block

1) Custom userContent rulesets: This is a tremendously successful way of blocking ads from displaying. It handles: iframes, img's, links, tables, forms, embeds and other elements.

This requires creating/editing a userContent.css in your profile's chrome directory, but once you go through this, it is worth the effort. Mike Hokenson is doing a great job at keeping these rules up to date and has provided some great additional options on his site. The ruleset settings recommended are updated frequently, so you'll benefit from a multitude of user feedback and new variant ad blocking techniques.

2a) AdBlock Plus Extension: I've used this in combination with the custom rulesets above and have created a beautifully wholesome browsing experience. The key features that I like about Adblock are that you can use regular expressions to hide AND collapse specific img's, iframes, flash animations, etc. I use this for specific images that I don't want to see on my regular page visits and to block specific sites/ads that don't get caught by the userContent rulesets.

2b) Adblock Filterset.G: FG is another list of rulesets which can be automatically updated using Adblock Filterset.G Updater extension.

3) Remove It Permanently (RIP): "Rip (Remove it Permanently) provides the ability to point at and remove permanently any item you can select. It provide a flexible and easily configurable solution to removing unwanted content from a web page."

4a) Greasemonkey: While I don't really use it, it can help with modifying the contents of webpages, etc.

4b) Platypus: is a Firefox extension which lets you modify a Web page from your browser -- "What You See Is What You Get" -- and then save those changes as a Greasemonkey script so that they'll be repeated the next time you visit the page. Editing pages to suit your needs is dandy -- but making those changes "permanent" is the real payoff.

As always enjoy, live long and prosper!!!

Nuke Anything Enhanced is another extension that can help. Unlike RIP, NAE only removes pictures and page objects temporarily.
