Always on the Move!!

Wow, were we getting tired of seeing the same Spotlight up here for this long! This section is normally updated every month but with my current contract and some work in progress, it's been neglected - until now. This month we decided to just give everyone the bad news - this site will be moving.... :( The good news is, it's moving to a faster server.

The decision to move the site to another server was one that took us about 4-5 months to get organized. You may be asking yourself, "why did it take them 4-5 months?" - that's a very good question and here is a list of the things we considered in moving the site:

  • installing an ISDN Web Server solution
  • evaluated about 10-15 web hosting services
  • calculated costs for web hosting services, ISDN and 56k, etc.
  • planned the transition of files and images
  • needed additional e-mail addresses, POP accounts and e-mail aliasing
  • wanted additional features and support

And after looking at all this we found the right mix and went with a very competitive web hosting services that gave us everything we needed, without sacrificing downtime, incurring exponential costs or headaches.

WHY MOVE?
After analyzing the web site access logs and seeing that some users had problems with downloading files and then we had problems with downloading files, so we decided to switch. For example, when we were uploading or downloading files to the site, the maximum throughput we could get was about 8k per second from a T1 connection!! This was truly pitiful and we could not take it anymore, but with the new account just recently opened we were able to realize up to 40k per second throughput!! Now that was what we were looking for in a server, not snailver.

WHEN?
Well, with everything on the Net happening at light speed, there is one thing we can not do very quickly and that is, speed up the InterNic registration changes. Once the changes are made at the governing internet web site naming depot, we will be able to us the new server, until then I'll keep everyone posted and make sure everyone know's when we have officially moved.

So look around and let me know if you liked your stay, send us your feedback. We're sure you'll like what you find!! Don't forget to visit the Table of Contents for a full layout of options on our server.

Update October 3rd: Yes, it's official as of this date our server information has changed and may move again in the future. We'll keep you posted and informed throughout the whole process.
